Family Centred Practice Model

Military Family Services’ (MFS) definition of family is: “The military family is understood to be all Canadian Armed Forces’ personnel, Regular and Reserve Force, and their spouses, partners, parents, children and relatives. Medically released members and their families are also included as well as family members and persons of significance to Canadian Armed Forces personnel who die while serving”.

Family Centred Practice means that families know what their needs are and what works best and therefore must influence the approaches and offerings developed by service providers. In serving families, resources and efforts are channeled to develop solutions that are shaped by families and deliver tangible, meaningful outcomes to them. (MFS Parameters 4 Practice)

The H&R MFRC Family Centred Practice Model includes the following core elements and is the basis of how support is provided to our community. We:

The H&R MFRC accepts and welcomes military and veteran families of all abilities. We believe that all individuals deserve an environment and experiences that promote growth in all areas of their development. Our programs and services endeavour to provide for the full inclusion of individuals and families with diverse needs; some reflecting their family’s background or culture. Our team will collaborate with families to develop a plan that will support a positive program experience. Confidentiality & Privacy

The privacy of families is important to us. The H&R MFRC respects and protects the confidentiality and privacy of its families, students, volunteers and staff. To ensure privacy, all information collected by the H&R MFRC is used solely for H&R MFRC programming purposes under strict confidentiality in compliance with the Privacy Act. Right and Responsibilities of Person Served

As a Military Family member accessing programs and/or services through the H&R MFRC you have the right to:

1. Be provided quality service without discrimination against your race, gender, religion, political affiliation, sexual orientation or other protected grounds.
2. Be treated in fair and respectful manner that respects your individuality and dignity.
3. Have any personal information collected kept confidential in accordance with law and H&R MFRC policies.
4. Refuse services offered.
5. Have your personal property treated with care.
6. Expect that complaints brought forward are dealt with in an efficient and timely manner.
7. Upon request, receive a written copy of your rights and responsibilities and have your questions answered so that you understand these in full.
8. Be referred to an advocate.

As a Military Family member accessing programs and/or services through the H&R MFRC you are responsible for:

1. Treating H&R MFRC employees, students, volunteers and other person served with courtesy and respect.
2. Using H&R MFRC resources in a safe and responsible manner.
3. Reporting concerns promptly to an H&R MFRC employee.
4. Not offering gifts, loans or services to H&R MFRC employees.
5. Respecting the scope of practice of the H&RMFRC.
6. Taking responsibility for your personal property.
7. Reviewing the Person served right and responsibilities.
8. Providing feedback to H&R MFRC employees and completing surveys.
