Update for Tuesday, April 27, 2021

In response to the rapidly evolving COVID-19 situation in our province, all three sites of the H&R MFRC (Shearwater, Halifax, and Cape Breton) will be closed to the public effective Wednesday, April 28, 2021. Our team will transition to working remotely and are available and accessible to support military and veteran families via phone, email, and using virtual platforms. Please note the following updates:

Child Care Centres:

• Shearwater Children’s Centre and Windsor Park Children’s Centre will remain open at current hours of operation (6:30am – 5pm).
• For families whose children will not be attending, and therefore not using their space, please advise their Early Childhood Educator or the Child Care Centre Administrator by contacting sherry.ellis@forces.gc.ca.
• Children aged 2 years and older are now asked to wear masks.
• Families enrolled will receive details from the Child Care Centre Director directly.

The H&R MFRC remains operational with the following services:

• Our information line remains available 24 hours, 7 days a week by calling: 902-427-7788. You will speak to a trained staff person who will assist with your inquires, such as referrals to the Duty Padre.
• Phone appointments and email inquiries for all service delivery areas, including one-on-one support services such as Veteran Family, Special Needs & Inclusion Navigation, Relocation, Employment & Education, Francophone, and Deployment.
• Mental Health counselling support is now available virtually as well as by phone.
• Virtual programming, including those offered by the Henderson Sweetman Youth Centre (YC). Please click here to view our program calendar.

*We are connecting with the Fleet Mail office and will provide further direction on morale mail drop off.

Families can also access:

• Mental Health services via the Family Information Line: 1-800-866-4546, or CFMAP (Canadian Forces Member Assistance Program): 1-800-268-7708 where you can speak directly with trained counsellors.
• Emergency Family Care Assistance: support for families on a case-by-case basis. It is dependent upon the resources of our partner agency who provides this service. We strongly encourage families to have a robust Family Care Plan and contingency plan. The evolving situation with COVID-19 may restrict our ability to provide emergency family care support.
• Strongest Families Institute: provides no cost online and telehealth mental health care services to children and youth from military families: 1-866-470-7111 / info@strongestfamilies.com.
• Tranquility is an online therapy option for treatment of anxiety and depression. This is a free service for members of military families aged 16 and older. Please call 902-427-7788 and ask to speak with our Intake & Caseload Coordinator.
